How to fit exercise into your daily life when you don't have the time

Hi there!! ☺ There are a lot of people in the world who simply do not have the time to put out everyday, or every other day, for a proper exercise routine.  YOU ARE NOT ALONE!! Here are some ways to incorporate exercise into your everyday life without having to make extra time for it:

  • Take the stairs.  Whenever possible, make sure you take the stairs. Walking up a flight of stairs for about a minute can burn up to 12 calories, whereas standing in an elevator for the same amount of time only burns 1 or 2 calories.  Though not a lot of calories are burnt, it is better than the 1/2 for an elevator, plus you get some muscle exercise in as well.

  • While brushing your teeth you can easily do some calve raises.  On average, brushing your teeth takes at least 2 minutes, so you will have 2 minutes worth of leg exercises twice a day.

  • While dinner is cooking you can do some proper exercise.  If you put up a meal that can cook on its own, you'll have about 15 - 30 minutes to do some intervals of skipping, on the spot running or even dumbbell exercises if you have these.  Alternate between 2 or 3 intense movements and exercise for 30 seconds, followed by a 30 second rest interval.  After about 10 - 15 times your dinner should be ready and you have gotten a good exercise with some cardio in!

  • Take the longest route to the bathroom, reception, boardroom or your boss' office.  This will help you get in some extra walking which is a very good basic exercise that won't make you look like you just left the gym. ☺  Pressed for time? Up your speed a bit and get in some cardio at the same time.

  • Turn your lunch break into an exercise.  You can go for a walk around  the blog, if you are brave enough you can put on some trainers and go for a run (remember that colder weather will lessen your sweating) or simply do some push-ups, squads, star-jumps and skipping in your office.

  • Incorporate squats and push-ups into your everyday activities.  You can squat every time you pack a dish into the dishwasher or bend to get something out of the bottom of the fridge.  You can do leaning push-ups against the kitchen counter while waiting for the kettle to boil.  The options are limitless!

  • You can also do bum squeezes (squeeze your two bum cheeks together and release) and tummy tucks (pull your stomach in towards your spine and release) whenever you stand still.  These are also a good secret exercise as it is not very noticeable that you are doing it.

So there you have it, no more excuses ☺ It is easy to incorporate exercise into your everyday life if you are simply too busy for the gym or a proper 45 - 60 minute exercise routine and now you can also have that body you dream of despite being very busy!
